Each month, the Upper School holds an assembly to mark Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the new month on the Jewish calendar. To honor the new month of Cheshvan, we held a program to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. We welcomed Zaq Harrison, founder of an educational program about the Munich 11 entitled “They’re All Gone,” who spoke powerfully about his recollections of the events and the impact that they had on his life as an athlete, a coach and a Jew. Harrison encouraged us all to think about our real heroes and the ways in which we can honor them in our lives. His story is featured in a series, “The Defining Moments in Sports History,” produced by HBO and Sports Illustrated.
